How dividends can grow your coverage

Some plans are “participating” policies. That means members may share in the society’s results through yearly dividends.

1. A dividend may be paid

Each year, the society may pay a dividend on participating policies. Dividends depend on its results and expenses, so they can change, and they are not guaranteed.

2. It can buy paid-up insurance

You can choose to use dividends to buy small amounts of extra coverage that are fully paid for. No more premium is ever owed on that added coverage.

3. Your death benefit can grow

Each addition raises your death benefit and cash value. Added coverage earns dividends too, so the growth can build over the years.

What it means for your family: your base death benefit is guaranteed. Any paid-up additions are added on top of it, so the amount paid to your beneficiaries can be higher than the amount you started with.

Other dividend choices may include taking cash, lowering your premium, or leaving dividends to earn interest. Dividends are not guaranteed and future amounts may be more or less than illustrated. Guarantees rely on the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the insurer.

Guaranteed base death benefit ($25,000)Paid-up additions from dividends (not guaranteed)

In this example, the death benefit grows from $25,000 to about $30,314 by year 20, with no increase in the monthly payment.

This is a hypothetical example for education only. It is not a policy illustration and does not show the actual results of any insurer or product. It assumes dividends are paid every year starting in year 2 and used to buy paid-up insurance. Dividends are not guaranteed, may be more or less than shown, and may be zero. Premiums vary by age, health, and plan. Ask for an official illustration before you apply.
